A Perfect Vacation Spot

Praiano is set like a diamond in an enchanting location, nestled among the beautiful inlets of the breathtaking Amalfi coast. Once an ancient fishing village, today it is a prestigious seaside resort.

Praiano, originally known as Plagium or Pelagianum, was once the holiday resort of the Amalfitan Doges. Today it may lack the splendour of Medieval nobility, but it has maintained its timeless charm as a small fishing village perched on the cliffs between its more famous neighbours, Positano and Amalfi.  Its defense a tower was built by Charles I of Anjou.

Alba - Sorgere del solePraiano at Night

One of our favorite places to visit.  We dive here, eat here, sleep here and spend the night here.  Our group consists of about twelve people who dive and party regularly.

Praiano Storm Coming

These photos are of my favorite view.  One of the three islands way in the distance has a hole in the middle of it that my friend drove his boat through.

This is the same view from a little coffee shop that we visit.  It rained ten minutes after I took this picture, but we didn't care.  We just moved inside and continued to enjoy the view and company.

Praiano Harbor, such as it is

The tower in the distance is one of many that were built to keep watch for the Barbary Pirates.  Saracen towerThis has got to be one of the most beautiful harbors on the coast.  It is just a little place at the foot of a 200 foot wide crevasse in solid rock.  The road down is treacherous, but the three restaurants are wonderful.  We plan to stay at one of the beach hotels next time we go on a dive trip here.

Looking up from the beach

The view looking up from the beach from under a rock shelf.  The café and hotel in the white building to the left are great, the hotel and restaurant in the pink building suck, and the hotel and restaurant in the little white building up and to the right are wonderful.
