MISENO
There's the car. Way down there. This a the view from 1/2 way up. It was a very long climb. I put the old Dad through a workout getting up here in a hurry.
That's me. Yeppers! Looking out through the gun hole of a WWII watch tower. There were many decaying buildings on top of the hill which had obviously been used to house soldiers, gun emplacements, etc. during the war. I tried my hardest to get into them but dad, the old foggy, wouldn't let me go in the ones where the roofs were falling in.
If you look really close, you can see me in the little WWII watch tower below the arrow on Capo Miseno with Prochida the little island in front of the Ischia...a hot thermal springs resort...in the background. Tell me this ain't a great place to visit!

Wine
At a store called Vino e Vino (Wine and Wine), I sampled the wine that Dad always buys. (He didn't even know that I drink.) It is made locally in Possilipo. The white is a nice dry and slightly effervescent wine. Before Dad would buy the wine, we had to sample it. They were more interested in filling my glass than his...wonder why?
Filling the bottle. This bottle of wine cost about $6.00. The white wine is behind me and the red is to the left of the vendor. Dad says the red is a little mousy, what ever that means, so he didn't buy any. The owner also has a large selection of regional and national wines in the other room.
The owner with a small portion of his wine selection in the background. The clear stuff is either Grappa or Sambuca. Either one can be use in your tank if you run out of gas. Dad's bottle of wine is in the forefront.
They had to show us their Christmas tree. If you look close you can see snow coming out of the top. Once you show an interest in an Italian or his work, they are very proud to show you everything. You have even more fun if you try to talk to them in their language and ask them to pose for pictures. Guess everyone likes to be special.

Market
Picture of one of the fifty or so fruit, vegetable, bread, meat, cheese and fish stalls in the Pozzouli market.
And of course, me testing the olives. By the time we had finished with the photos, explaining where I was from and how long I would be here, where my Dad lives, how much we liked Italy, etc., we had bought enough olives and vegetables to start our own stall. But it was wonderful fun. Return to Top
Dinner with the Landlord's Family
The Lungo's invited us for Cenara, lunch. It consisted of at least seven courses. We were so full.... Then came the coffee, after dinner drinks and fruit. From left to right. Mom, Valeria, Ester, Alberto, Alfredo, me and dad behind the camera. They live in a building of ten apartments. Each of the nine brothers owns one. They just moved into this refurbished apartment two months ago. They have no heat. They cooked the whole dinner on a camp type stove. The problem is that they live across the street from an Roman amphitheatro and they must get special permits to get the gas line run to the building.
This is the view from their front porch. Sophia Loren's house is out of site to the right of the amphitheatro. She was born there but now lives in LA. Her sister resides in the house. You can see Miseno and Baia in the background across the bay of Pozzouli. Return to Top
Goin' Home
I wanted this picture taken like I wanted a tooth pulled. But dad...need I say more. I am just getting all my loot together to head for the 18 hour flight home. You can tell I got an attitude.
