Deruta Italy
A Place to Shop
Carol stalks the good deals! This is the entrance to the walled city of Deruta. There are many small shops in this old town, but most of the big factories are in the newer town just below. BUT...they are all great.
The City's Christmas Tree!
An up close shot of the Ornaments each of which is a hand made ceramic. You wonder how they keep the tourists from taking one home. Honesty doesn't seem to be problem here.
A old Italian man, under the instruction of his wife, took this picture. Behind us is another Precepe (Nativity Scene). Every town, every village and most homes have elaborate Precepe's. One can buy a model town containing anywhere from just a manager to something with five or more buildings. The village is then populated by buying figures. Of course the Nativity figures, but also a plumber or pizza maker or sailor or whatever floats your boat. The figures can be simple or works of art depending on your budget.
Even the store fronts are china. The owner of this factory lived above the shop. When we rang the bell, on a Sunday, he came down, turned on all the lights and let us browse through all the many rooms. We didn't buy from him because his stuff was too modern.
These thumb nails are a random selection from various shops. Just click on them. The Great Wall of China!
